We were puzzled to hear that a very common weed of the Boston area, Canada hawkweed was not a native plant! We solved this riddle with the help of IPNI (International Plant Name Index): it is the European plant, Savoy hawkweed, that has been known as Hieracium canadense hort. The true Hieracium canadense grows in Canada and does not occur in Massachusetts.
