The heads are arranged in a secondary open inflorescence:
a spike or cylindric panicle. Blazing star grows in dry woods
and at wood openings. Its narrow pubescent leaves tell us this is a plant
of dry habitats. In Myles Standish this rare plant has found refuge right along
a paved road, in a mowed meadow.
