A wide-ranging small native annual with thin capillary leaves and wiry ribbed stems, tufted hairsedge (or threadleaf beakseed) forms scattered dense tufts in sandy open habitats, often disturbed, mostly where other vegetation is lacking. In this case, it was growing under a high-voltage line.
