Scotch broom has been classified as a noxious weed and/or invasive species in Australia, New Zealand, India, and parts of North American West Coast (California, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia since 1920s); it is also deemed invasive in parts of East Coast. In New England so far it has not been inflicting as much damage as on the Pacific Coast.
