Lobes in leaves of black oak can be more or less pronounced and sometimes nearly disappearing. The general rule, as in other
oaks, is that the higher in the crown, the more lobed (xeromorphic) the leaves are (the opposite is also true). Leaves are
the broadest above the middle.
