A non-native colonial plant, lily-of-the-valley, invades a population of the native false lily-of-the-valley or Canada mayflower. Lily-of-the-valley is a plant with a tremendous area of distribution: from West Europe to Japan an Korea as well as in the southeastern North America. Within this vast area, it is represented by a few varieties (or subspecies, or even species, depending upon researchers' views.)
