Large purple clumps of love-grass become very conspicuous
in August-September along highways, on open sand, or at any sunny
disturbed habitats with sandy or rocky soil. This low perennial grass produces
a disproportionally huge inflorescence, which eventually breaks off. Seeds then
travel around on this tumbleweed.
