Serrate leaves of common buckthorn have 2-4 arching lateral veins, which makes them look quite different from those of glossy
buckthorn. Both Eurasian buckthorns have made it on the black list of shrubs invasive in New England, though common buckthorn
appears much less aggressive in eastern Massachusetts in comparison with glossy buckthorn.
