The other widespread cattail, native both in Eastern and Western Hemisphere. Staminate parts of spikes sit right on top of pistillate parts. Compare this photo with the one of narrow-leaved cattail, where staminate and pistillate parts are rather far apart, separated by a green axis stretch.
